Bryan Perez

My name is Brayan Perez Muñoz and I am about to graduate from high school. I plan to attend the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), where I would like to study Medicine, or Nursing as my second choice.

Receiving a scholarship for my education would truly be a great support, because my family and I don’t have many resources — though we are fortunate enough to have food on the table and a roof over our heads.

After graduating, I plan to go straight into university, so I don’t lose momentum, and also to work at the same time. The following year, I plan to move closer to the university so that transportation isn’t a constant struggle and I can focus on my studies more peacefully.

Throughout my life I have worked in a bakery — my mom’s bakery — starting at age 12. After that, I worked at a hotel on Saturdays and Sundays only. Then I moved on to a restaurant where I worked Friday through Sunday, with Fridays being part-time.

My motivation to go to university came from within. At first I wanted to study Gastronomy, but Medicine drew me in more — the idea of helping people. My mom also inspired me deeply. She has fought and struggled on her own to raise me and my three siblings, and I truly want to study so that one day I can give her a better life — so she can stop struggling, finally rest, and breathe easy after everything she has been through.

Hola, mi nombre es Brayan Perez Muñoz y actualmente estoy por graduarme de la preparatoria. Tengo planeado asistir a la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), en la cual me gustaría estudiar la carrera de medicina o de segunda opción enfermería.

Para mí recibir una beca para mi educación en verdad es un gran apoyo, porque la verdad yo y mi familia no somos de muchos recursos, aunque tampoco nos hace falta la comida y un techo donde vivir.

Después de graduarme tengo planeado meterme a la universidad para terminar mis estudios más rápido y no perder mucho el tiempo, y también trabajar para que el siguiente año pueda irme a vivir cerca de la universidad, para no batallar mucho con el transporte y así poder estudiar más tranquilo.

A lo largo de mi vida he trabajado en una pastería que empecé a los 12 años — la pastería es de mi mami. Después me fui a trabajar a un hotel en el cual solo trabajaba sábado y domingo. Después me salí y me fui a trabajar a un restaurante, pero ahí trabajaba de viernes a domingo y los viernes solo eran de medio tiempo.

Mi inspiración para ir a la universidad fui yo solo, porque primero quería estudiar gastronomía pero me llamó más la atención la medicina y ayudar a las personas. Por otra parte también me inspiró mi mamá, porque ella ha luchado y batallado sola en sacar adelante a mí y a mis 3 hermanos. En verdad yo quiero estudiar para en un futuro darle una mejor vida a mi mamá, que ella deje de batallar, que pueda tomar un descanso de todo y pueda respirar bien después de todo lo que pasó y vivió.
